Hello people,
I hope you are all OK and that you will like this post. In this tutorial i will tell you some short infos about LibreOffice and how to install it in Ubuntu. Installation of LibreOffice version 3.3 is very simple and all you need to do is to go to LibreOffice download page and grab archive.
As you probably know OpenOffice is now under Oracle and they were making some problems and doubts so group of OpenOffice developers left the project and started their own version with the name LibreOffice. It is very similar to OpenOffice but it is quite independent now from Oracle influence. In that manner it is becoming more and more popular for all of us and if i am not wrong it will become mainstream in new Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04.
Just not to forget - if you are in position donate some money to LibreOffice! They are raising funds for further development.
So lets begin. First go to LibreOffice website and download .deb file for your version of Ubuntu (32bit or 64bit). You can download it from here. Archive is about 163MB big so if you have slower connection be patient.
Unpack archive. Go into folder in which you have unpacked archive and there you will find update file and two folders - readmes and DEBS.
All you need is to type:
sudo ./update
and installation will start automatically. Then you need to wait for some time very soon you will have LibreOffice installed and visible in your Menu under Office tab. With this kind of installation you will have, by default, fallowing programs installed:
There is also a more simple way to install LibreOffice in Ubunto and that is by adding PPA in your list. Type:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libreoffice
If you want to integrate it in your desktop environment type:
sudo apt-get install libreoffice-gnome (for GNOME users)
or
sudo apt-get install libreoffice-kde (for KDE users)
That is it! Test it and contribute it! We will need it for sure in the near future.

thanks a lot for your installation description. The installation of libreoffice was smooth for my xubuntu 10.04.
No problem. Thanks for reading my blog.
Hi, Good, helpful article!
I have just one question.
How do you do this sudo apt-get install libreoffice-kde for xubuntu users?
Thanks!
Michael
Anonymous, When you installed it did you do just the straight install or did you do for xubuntu?
Michael
This package is only for KDE users. I see that in repositories you can find package for GNOME also but there is no integration for XFCE. I am repeating, as much i can tell at the moment.
You need to install LIbreOffice regularly like any other program and then after that you install this package since it will not install automatically.
